WATERSTONE College learners marched around the perimeter of their school, in hopes of raising awareness of the issue of drugs and drug abuse.

Following the national campaign, held on Friday, March 18, the high school pupils, who all wore some form of red, were requested to pay R5 to the school, which will be donated to the Kholofelo Hope Centre (adconcerns.co.za)

Alcohol and Drug Concerns (ADC) is a passionate group, aimed at educating the youth on the dangers of drugs and substance use and abuse.

Operational head at Waterstone College, Matthew Ridgeway, said the issue of drug and alcohol abuse in families is not something that should be taken lightly.

“The school responded to the call made by the ADC to support the Red Friday campaign against drugs, and we are marching around the perimeter of the school, praying for peace and protection in our families and community,” he said.

The nationwide prayer, that began at 10am, saw people from all walks of life remembering those affected by drugs.

Pupils started the march on the school grounds, by observing a moment of silence. Thereafter they began the march around the school and were then dismissed for the end of term.
