ANC expels ward secretary for 10 years
Sibusiso Mzelemu was found guilty of bringing the organisation to disrepute among other findings.
ANC’s David Webster branch in ward 57 recently expelled the branch secretary, Sibusiso Mzelemu, for 10 straight years following an internal disciplinary hearing.
The disciplinary committee held a public briefing at the La Rochelle Primary School, on Saturday, April 2, where the public and the media were invited to liaise with the committee about the decision.
Sibusiso Mzelemu was found guilty of gross insubordination, bringing the branch into serious disrepute, impeding the activities of the organisation and aggravating circumstances, which all, according to the committee, justified the duration of the expulsion.
Among the highlighted wrongdoings, the committee said Sibusiso was found guilty of refusing to attend branch meetings, organising parallel meetings which were contrary to the ANC gatherings, allowing general membership access to branch-audited data, and not submitting to ANC rules and procedures and code of conduct.
The 10-year expulsion means Sibusiso is suspended from participating in all ANC-related activities for a period of 10 years and he is also not allowed to take part in campaigns on behalf of the ANC, ANC gatherings, branch-related activities and participating in all alliance structures such as SANCO, SACP, and COSATU.
ANC’s Bev Turk and Bulelwa Rashama, who were among the crowd, said they welcomed the decision by the disciplinary committee, as it showed that no one individual is bigger than the ANC in the ward 57 branch.
The committee also mentioned to the crowd gathered at the hall that “comrade” Sibusiso walked out of a disciplinary and left the committee to go ahead on their own.
The COURIER team contacted Sibusiso, who said he could not comment at this stage as he was appealing the decision by the disciplinary committee and would only be able to communicate with the COURIER once all proceedings had passed.
