Elderly’s power restored
A man and a woman was seen fiddling with the street pole and suddenly three houses lost their power.
AFTER spending four days without power, 74-year-old Lorna Sinclair is happy that her power was restored on the night of Thursday, April 7.
The George Street resident of Rosettenville, who lost her power on Monday morning, April 4, said she spent a lot of her money calling City Power, only to be told over and over again that her enquiry had been allocated to a contractor,
The COURIER also phoned City Power, on Tuesday April 5, and was informed that the problem would be attended to within a couple of hours. Two days later, it had still not been attended to.
Lorna kept phoning the people’s southern paper as she could not handle the cold. The COURIER team sat down with Lorna and learnt that she had been locking herself in her bedroom and reading books as she had nothing to do and she was freezing.
On Thursday, April 8, the COURIER was assured by City Power’s spokesperson, Yumna Sheik, that Lorna’s power would be restored the very same night even if it meant it had to be escalated to night shift. Indeed Lorna’s power was restored on the very same day Yumna was informed of Lorna’s situation.
“Me and my neighbours had no power. My meat was being ruined. Another neighbour gave me ice bags to try and keep it cold. After holding onto the phone for over 15 minutes without getting any help and constantly running out of airtime, I was ready to go to their offices and shout at them,” said Lorna.
