WORLD veterinary day will be celebrated on Sunday, April 30. Primary health care is the basis of veterinary care and the JSPCA veterinary team spends time with clients daily, educating them on this important topic.
In a media release, JSPCA public relations officer Jolene Beyleveld said their state-of-the-art veterinary hospital provides treatment to the animals belonging to those members of the public who cannot afford the services of a veterinarian. “We, on average, see more than 3 000 animals per year. The Johannesburg SPCA’s Veterinary Hospital is one of the largest animal welfare hospitals in South Africa.
“We provide medical care for stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals, sterilise all animals put up for adoption in our kennels department, and provide subsided services for the residents in our area who do not have the financial resources to take their pets to a private vet.
“Our expert veterinary team also offers helpful advice on how to care for pets once they’ve been treated at the hospital and are ready to return home,” she said.
At the JSPCA they believe that healthy pets and happy families go together, and the dedicated vets and staff at the veterinary hospital are deeply committed to helping both animals and their owners.
“At the JSPCA we’re sensitive to the needs of both the animals and the people in the areas that we serve. We therefore offer a subsidised veterinary service for people who can’t afford the services of a private vet. Proof of income is, however, needed in order to benefit from this subsidy.
“The Johannesburg SPCA has had many veterinarians over the years who have helped ensure primary health care is available to all pet owners. We thank them for their efforts over these years,” noted Jolene.
