Healthy living is a priority
Locals asked health experts about leading healthy lifestyles.
RESIDENTS of the South were invited to a health awareness open day to learn about health at the Crown Gardens Recreation Centre on Friday, August 26.
The centre also houses the local Crown Gardens clinic, which has gained a good reputation for working with the Johannesburg Health Department to host edutainment events and teach people about health and leading healthy lifestyles.
Stakeholders from various organisations that promote healthy lifestyles were present to offer services such as pap smear testing, HIV testing, circumcision and drug awareness, to name a few.
Isaac Morake from the Johannesburg Health Department was happy with the turnout as it indicated to him that people do care about their health and are receiving much needed information needed to live with chronic diseases.
“Our focus today is the health of mother and child. As you can see there are a number of pregnant women here to learn on how best to care for their health and that of their babies. We are also educating and helping the elderly who need to know more about their medications and which medications they can take to fight off certain illnesses,” said Isaac.
Locals enjoyed health advice from experts coming from Hollard, APD (Association of People with Disabilities), WRHI (Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute), Virgin Active, Espoir, Joburg dealth department, Chaps the Clinic Committee.
