THE City of Johannesburg’s Environmental Health Region F2 in conjunction with SAPS Booysens and Moffatview, JMPD, Market Super Spar Kenilworth and IPOP Johannesburg South, embarked on an anti-drug awareness drive on September 9.
More than 700 participants joined forces to make this initiative a success. The campaign took place in the Turffontein, Kenilworth and Rosettenville areas – where people from different stakeholders, NGO’s and government institutions, plus pupils from several schools came together. The campaign’s particular focus has been to reverse the profoundly negative impacts of long-standing and devastating drug trafficking, plus related criminal activities. With drug use many social, environmental health and crime related issues emerge.
More schools participated in this campaign than previously. A competition was run among participating schools with best banner, best essay and poetry categories. All participants received a certificate and the winners a trophy. The awards ceremony took place at the winning schools on October 13.
