New skilled horisons for women in La Rochelle
Unemployed foreign women skilled in La Rochelle by St Vincent de Paul Society
LA ROCHELLE’S St Vincent de Paul Society is proud to have skilled and empowered 16 women, who were mostly unskilled and unemployed single mothers living in the South.
The women have graduated from two separate courses designed to skill and install knowledge, that would be vital for the women to apply for themselves in future.
The first group of graduates have already established themselves as an organisation and are trading their designs. The second group, which graduated on Tuesday, November 29, will also follow in their footsteps – to hopefully start generating an income from trading their beautiful produce. That outcome is courtesy of Mariejie Neervoort, who shared her skills with the local women.
“We are so proud the initiative has arrived at this point. This has been a fantastic initiative because jobs are scarce these days. The church did well too in opening its doors to empower these women,” said a proud Walter Middleton.
The organisation wants to continues this initiative and invites interested individuals to make an application at the St Vincent de Paul Society in 5th Street, La Rochelle; or contact Walter Middleton on 082 561 1352 or Mariejie Neervoort on 071 679 1144.
Donations are welcome to help the initiative hopefully enroll more than 10 people at a time. People are encouraged to donate anything that can be useful in sewing classes, such as old or used wool, a sewing machine and various other equipment.
