Let’s uplift one another

People of the South are encouraged to contribute to the development of this project.

A GROUP of youngsters in the South have started a project where they help disadvantaged communities with their day-to-day challenges.

They work with volunteers under the leadership of a non-profit organisation, Lethabo La Africa. These young volunteers are assisting these communities with issues such as hunger, shortages of educational resources, lack of health care medication and the negative impact that environmental pollution causes for human beings.

Chairperson Karabo Mokgonyana (19) said they believe that these issues have become the root of crime and inequality within the community. “We are creating a platform for them to better their lives. Some of the focus is the community libraries where we want to collect books in our neighbourhood so that we can equip these communities. We also work with Wits University – they help us in imparting skills to the community, and we also work with schools to encourage learners to choose the right careers for themselves,” she explained.

People of the South are encouraged to contribute to the development of this project. They can donate books, time, skills or advice to Lethabo La Africa. Contact them at lethabolaafrica@gmail.com or on 083 676 8768.
