Achieving her dream
“After a short year at Abbotts I did achieve my dream and I have been accepted into the chiropratic course at UJ and I was shown my true potential by receiving those two awards at the end of the year,” said Shani.
SHANI Lee Joubert, a learner at Abbotts College Johannesburg South, would like to share her story to the grade 12s of 2107, who think they can’t try again to gain the results they want.
“The college was brought to my attention last year through a UJ bridging course. I hadn’t got the marks I initially needed to get into my course at UJ and my parents posed me with two options; re-do my four matric subjects or go to work. I chose to re-do so I could study chiropractic and I enrolled at Abbotts.
“My year there was a year of growth and surprises. I’d already been labelled by some teachers as a 30 per cent child but I soon proved them wrong! The teaching style there is nothing I had experienced before, in a good way, and the teachers are caring, compassionate and willing to do as much and more than is expected.”
Shani walked away with 80 per cent in science and the science trophy, a merit award in Life Science for 78 per cent, in mathematics core she picked up her mark to 76 per cent by the end of the year and throughout the year she’d received an average of 85 per cent which she’d never had before.
“After a short year at Abbotts I did achieve my dream and I have been accepted into the chiropractic course at UJ. I was shown my true potential by receiving those two awards at the end of the year,” said Shani.
