Car-jamming thieves caught

The suspects are being linked to other cases of theft out of motor vehicle committed in the Mondeor area using a silver Polo.

TWO suspects aged 34 and 29 years were recently arrested for theft out of motor vehicle on Tuesday, February 21 by Mondeor SAPS.

Mondeor detectives spotted the vehicle, a silver VW Polo, that was used in the thefts.

The vehicle was stopped in Eldorado Park, which led to the arrest of another suspect found in possession of a vehicle-jamming device.

The remote-like devices prevented the victims’ vehicles from being locked. The suspects then stole valuables from the vehicles. They have been linked to other cases of theft out of motor vehicle committed in the Mondeor area.

Mondeor police are urging the community to refrain from leaving valuables inside their vehicles.

– Valuable items such as laptops and cameras should be put in the boot of your car.

– Be aware of people approaching you and informing you that you have a flat tyre. Their intention could be to steal items that they see inside the car, or to steal your car.

– Do not leave your vehicle unlocked, even if you think you will be away for only a minute.

– Park your vehicle in places that are well lit.
