Pensioner allegedly killed at Swinburne

Condolences to the family.

A PENSIONER was found dead in his apartment at Swinburne Old Age Home, South Hills after he was allegedly murdered by his son on May 22.

At about 4:20pm, the suspect went to his father’s house at the old age home on the corner of Swinburne and Outspan roads, South Hills. The suspect’s cousin was also there. Moffat View SAPS spokesperson Constable Mikateko Bila said the suspect stabbed his father in the hand and strangled him with an electric cord.

“The cousin locked himself in the bathroom and screamed for help. When the police arrived, he opened and told the police that the son killed his father. The suspect has been arrested for murder and is being held at the Moffat View SAPS,” explained Constable Bila.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame said the old man was found lying on the floor beaten and strangled with the cord around his neck. “It is alleged that the son was using drugs and beating his father for drug money. According to the neighbours he always beats up his father from time to time. I raised this issue with the council on numerous occasions about children staying with the elderly in old age homes. These homes are for the elderly people and not for children and grandchildren. Condolences to the family,” she said.
