OVER the week of May 4 to 14 Moffat View SAPS arrested 47 suspects for various crimes: assault common – two, assault GBH – four, business break-in – two, common robbery – three, driving under the influence of alcohol – 14, possession of drugs – six, possession of suspected stolen goods – three, shoplifting – eight, and theft – five.
One suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen plasma TVs.
On May 16 at about 11pm, Sergeant Solomon Malatji and Sergeant Bongani Ngobe were patrolling the Elandspark, Moffat View area when they spotted a white Nissan truck with a canopy parked on the side of the road next to a bridge, at the corner of South Rand and Heidelberg roads.
The truck was open at the back, and there were cars parked next to it.
The Sergeants approached the driver and called for backup; they asked if they could search the truck and found plasma TVs inside it. When Sergeant Malatji asked who the owner of the TVs was, the driver of the truck said he had been hired by somebody to deliver them to another factory. When the other vehicles saw the police, they drove off. The driver was arrested for possession of stolen goods and taken to Moffat View SAPS.
