Way forward for disgruntled residents

The outspoken Hlafa said his objective was to prioritise locals in community development.

A steady and much-needed gain in momentum creeps in as Rosettenville residents get their call answered.

The Rosettenville Junction Shopping Centre was at the bad end of a protest on February 3, when residents barricaded its entrance with burning tires.

The protest was, according to community leader and ANC Ward 56 branch secretary Simphiwe Hlafa, to alert the centre of the ongoing thuggery the residents were subjected to.

“Steady and positive results are in motion,” he said, following talks with the centre management.

Hlafa said Rosettenville Junction management started implementing some of their recommendations following ‘fruitful engagements with them.’

The outspoken Hlafa said his objective was to prioritise locals in community development.

Hlafa, among an army of protesters, took to the streets surrounding Rosettenville Junction to boycott the constant targeting of shoppers falling victim to thugs at the centre.

He demanded that the centre’s roof in the parking area be looked into as it posed a danger to its shoppers.

The steady and needed change seems to be creeping in which may result in less hostile community members.

Hlafa, whose mission is to help alleviate unemployment in the community, paints a picture that adamant robust engagement may be needed to nudge any wheel into motion.
