‘I didn’t burn our house’

The preliminary report from Kibler Park says the cause of the fire was undetermined.

CHRISTEN Stander says there are rumours that she burnt down her house, situated in Biccard Street in Turffointein, which caught fire on April 15.

She said all she wants to know is what caused the fire.

“My husband and I were at home and we heard a popping sound like something was bursting, like a lightbulb. When we went to investigate the bedroom was already on fire,” she said.

They forced their way out by bending the burglar gate open. People came to help extinguish the fire.

“The fire brigade from Alexander took four hours to come and they ran out of water. We had to wait for Kibler Park fire engine for another hour. We have nothing as everything burnt down. And now we hear people say I burnt down the house. We don’t even know what started the fire,” explained Christen.
