Open Day – Phoenix House
This project is located on Stephenson Street near the Faraday Taxi Rank - in the heart of the city of Johannesburg.

PHOENIX House is a building in the inner city that was refurbished by Joshco to accommodate low-income earners.
These incomes range from a minimum of R2 880 per month to a maximum of R5 600 per month.
The residents from Ward 124 will be given the highest priority in the allocation of Phoenix House rental units which are available for occupation almost immediately.
The areas within Ward 124 are Selby, Reuven, City Power, Southern Suburbs, Glenesk, Forest Hill and parts of the inner city.
One of executive mayor Herman Mashaba’s priorities is to revive the inner city and bring people and businesses to the area. Joshco’s primary objective is to transform the lives of the tenants by providing quality accommodation that is sustainable and energy efficient.
“Joshco further contributes through the refurbishment of rundown buildings in the inner city,” said Joshco CEO Anthony Ngcezula.
The project offers a safe environment with 24-hour security, a clean environment and affordable rentals. This is a great step to enhancing the image of the inner city since the surrounding buildings are dilapidated and contribute to the current state of urban decay.
Phoenix House is a communal project consisting of 127 communal rooms. Communal rental housing is a form of accommodation where the costs of development are minimised by providing rental rooms with shared bathrooms, laundries and kitchens. The size of the rooms ranges from 11 square metres to 38 square metres with rentals ranging between R720 per month to R1400 per month based on the size of the room.
This project is located on Stephenson Street near the Faraday Taxi Rank – in the heart of the city of Johannesburg. Interested community members can view the building on May 26 from 8am to 4pm and fill out an enquiry form.
