Parking lot invaders make Rosettenville residents feel unsafe

Children are even scared to play in the parking lot.

ROSETTENVILLE residents are living in fear as it is believed that well-known thugs in the area invaded a parking area near Delphi Court.

According to the residents, some of them have been mugged and had their furniture stolen since the people invaded the parking area.

They also told the COURIER that about 11 invaders made this their residence and week by week the number escalates.

“The parking lot is a mess. It is intolerable, our children can’t even play outside because they are scared of these people. Not, only the children even as adults we are scared to walk at night because we will be mugged,” said a resident.

“We don’t own the space the invaders are currently in, that space is owned by the municipality. I am only managing the building and would appreciate it if these people can be removed because residents can’t exercise their chores and that leaves a concern to me as a manager,” said Tyrone Statelseldt, portfolio manager of Elrite and Delphi Court.

Michael Crichton, Ward 56 councillor, said: “As far as the parking area is concerned, I have previously had an inspection there with the JMPD and the environmental health department. During the inspection, we discovered that a number of the trucks there are unlicensed and as a result were impounded. The food vendors there were issued with notices by the health inspectors. I’m looking at having another inspection there soon.”

MESS: The invaders of a Rosettenville parking area sleep here every night and residents who pass by as they go to and from work fear there is a chance of them being robbed.

One of the invaders said, “I live here because at home I was chased away because of poverty, therefore, I decided to join the guys here. I know that am living in a dirty environment but that’s life. With regards to stealing people’s belongings, I don’t know. We wake up every morning to find piece jobs, that’s it.”
