Drivers ignore stop signs on Amanda Avenue
“This road is quite literally like a raceway. You should hear the cars speeding on a Friday and Saturday evening.”
STOP Street signs were erected on Tuesday, June 5 in Amanda Avenue, Glenanda North, but not without some drivers failing to notice the new signs and flying through!
Residents in the area have for many years been complaining about the speed drivers’ race up and down Amanda Avenue and have voiced their concerns.
“This road is quite literally like a raceway. You should hear the cars speeding on a Friday and Saturday evening. I’m surprised there haven’t been more serious accidents,” said one resident.
“I did think that speed humps will have been better for this road though. Early morning and evening there’s going to be queues of traffic.”
“There’s going to be a fatal accident at this intersection if drivers’ don’t adhere to the stop signs,” said Derick Joubert, deputy chair of Glenanda North Residents Association (GNRA).
A meeting will be held by members of GNRA next week with the Comaro CHRONICLE reporter to discuss the way forward.
