I don’t feel safe in my own home anymore

A MULBARTON man feels targeted and unsafe in his neighbourhood following a recent house robbery during which he lost his car and valuable items to armed robbers.

Mpho Mazibuko was attacked by three armed robbers who were hiding in his yard last Tuesday night around 22.35pm when he and his partner had just returned from visiting his family.

“As we entered our home in Mulbarton on Archibald Avenue, we did not know armed robbers were waiting to pounce on us and were hiding somewhere in our yard. After opening our doors to get inside, the robbers pulled up from nowhere with guns pointed at us,” he said.

Mpho said the robbers forcefully pushed him and his partner inside the house demanding laptops, safes and guns, which the couple failed to provide. Hence they ended up stealing a plasma television, money and other valuable gadgets from inside the house.

The robbers used the couple’s two-door red Mazda MX6 as the getaway vehicle to flee from the scene.

“While two of them pointed guns at us, one of them remained on guard outside threatening us to remain silent before going off with my car. I believe these are the same guys who also tried to rob us last year and they also attempted to rob my neighbour earlier this year,” said Mpho.

Mpho said crime in the South was getting out of hand and police visibility had to be increased to curb robberies and the victimisation of ordinary people during these ordeals.

“Having an armed robber holding you at gunpoint is terrifying and no one should experience such life-threatening situations; it’s traumatising and even to date my partner and I do not feel safe at all,” he said.

Among many other items stolen were two phones, blankets, money and four memory sticks. The case was reported to the Mondeor Police Station with investigations underway.

Mpho has, however, called on the general public to assist with any information that could help him to recover his car.
