JOHANNESBURG SPCA welcomed Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School to teach the learners about animal care on June 20.
The SPCA hosts schools every so often to show them the facility and educate learners about pet care.
“If learners are taught how to take care of animals they will pass on the message to their parents and other children,” explained Liana Mary, kennel manager at the SPCA.
The learners enjoyed sharing their time with the animals. Cassandra Stark, one of the teachers said: “The excursion was exciting and fun. We were welcomed by a noisy donkey. The donkey brayed so much and was adamant that he was fed first by the learners. Following that the children fed cows, pigs, goats, sheep, geese and chickens – and they simply had the best of times.
“Some of the children even squealed with joy when a pig wanted its stomach to be patted. The learners didn’t want to leave the SPCA because they wanted to spend more time with the animals.”
