WATCH: GEPF donates R1m to fight hunger and boost maths education
Annual golf fundraiser yields vital support for Rise Against Hunger and the South African Maths Foundation.
Two beneficiary organisations, Rise Against Hunger and the South African Maths Foundation, received a R1m donation from the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) on September 1 as part of its ongoing community upliftment efforts.
The donations were made possible through funds raised during the GEPF’s annual golf day, which brings together the Fund and its stakeholders to raise funds in support of organisations making a meaningful difference in communities.
The handover took place in Aeroton, Johannesburg South.
The visit included the official handover of the donation to Rise Against Hunger, providing an opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s work and the impact of the GEPF’s support in addressing food insecurity.
Rise Against Hunger provides food parcels for Early Childhood Development centres across South Africa, aiming to remove hunger as an obstacle for children.
Speaking at the event, GEPF principal executive officer Musa Mabesa said the engagement provided an opportunity to learn more about the beneficiary organisation and highlighted the impact of the Fund’s community-focused initiatives beyond its core retirement mandate.

Rise Against Hunger CEO Brian Nell welcomed the contribution, saying the donation would be used to feed many children to keep them healthy and happy while learning, adding that they are grateful to everyone involved and can eradicate hunger together.
