Nyaope addict from Turffontein regrets his choices

He says that he used to be motivated and a go-getter but all of that changed when he started ill-treating his family.

DOREEN Williams (37) from Turffontein wants to change his life and abandon nyaope that has cost him, his youth days.

He says that he used to be motivated and a go-getter but all of that changed when he started ill-treating his family.

“I was no longer obedient towards them and started swearing and stealing from them. I lost reverence for people around me. When my parents instructed me to do my home chores, I would tell them to their faces that I am not a slave. My disrespect escalated to a point where, one day, I knocked out an old timer with a fist, because he refused to share a cigarette with me,” he said.

The love and care between him and his family faded out because of his attitude towards them. He then decided not to be a son to them anymore.

“What I did to my family and to people that used to adore me is painful and unforgivable. Living the life of a nyaope boy made me become a poor thief. People used to trust me with their belongings but now I sell whatever I get for a fix.

“I am from a warm family where love and peace was our way of living and I used to get everything I needed but now I have to scavenge for food like a dog,” Doreen told the COURIER.

Doreen admitted to the COURIER that he realises that he was wrong to treat his loved ones the way he did. All he wants is to reunite with his family and ask for forgiveness. But, he claims that if someone can offer him help, he would appreciate that with open arms.

Doreen added: “I blame myself for all the tribulations that I am facing because if you disrespect old people your life is doomed. The only way out for me is to ask for forgiveness.”

Anyone who would like to help Doreen Williams can find him at Turf club and Paul Nel Street in Turffontein, around 11am to 2pm.
