Money counting in a taxi helped commuter’s mathematics skills improve

Sifiso’s maths skills improved by counting money in the taxi.

SIFISO Guzan (34) from Haddon gives credit to counting money in a taxi for his improved mathematics skills.

Before he couldn’t help commuters with their change-money in the taxi. He was even scared to take the front seat just to avoid counting money. But, as years went by he started challenging himself by counting commuters’ money. At school, he was not academically inclined when it came to mathematics but today he doesn’t use a calculator while busy with money in the taxi.

He believes that counting money in the taxi every day has improved his mathematics skills in a sense that it has enabled his mind to other mathematics techniques. When Sifiso gets into a taxi he pleads with commuters and drivers to sit in front just to count the money.

“I feel honoured to tell people that counting money in the taxi has helped to improve my mathematics skills in such a way that even school learners come to me for assistance, which is a good thing.

“First of all, it’s not easy to count money in the taxi because commuters bring R200 notes sometimes R100 while taxi fare is R12, so to change that amount of money for 15 people in a single taxi is not easy. It only takes someone with mathematics skills to do it properly. Most of the taxi drivers know me by now just because I always count money,” explained Sifiso.

Sifiso wishes to become an accountant one day, age is not an issue for him. He urges commuters to challenge themselves to always take the front seat so that they can be able to learn how to count money.
