Visit to Gold Reef City

ABBOTTS College Johannesburg South’s Grade Eights recently visited Gold Reef City with their teacher Mr V Knoetze.
“Living in the ‘city of gold’ it still amazes me how young children still don’t know what a mine shaft looks like. In the subject technology, learners are expected to tender for a new mining shaft being built,” said Knoetze.
“They also have to build a scale model of the mine shaft. Gold Reef City has an amazing heritage tour telling the story of mining in South Africa and the children were astounded by the works of a mine shaft and how big the shafts are. The tour guide was really helpful in most of the children’s questions,” added Knoetze.
“It wasn’t all about work though. After the tour they were allowed to have some fun in the theme park.”
