Fighting crime is of utmost importance
Clr Michael Crichton delivered a message of support for the work done and in progress by the community and all the departments involved in security and safety.
MOFFAT View CPF held a public meeting earlier this month at the Regents Park Primary School.
Some of the concerns raised included ways of combating crime in the area.
Both Ward 56 and 57 councillors Michael Crichton and Faeeza Chame were present. Crichton delivered a message of support for the work done and in progress by the community and all the departments involved in security and safety.
Moffat View CPF’s chairperson Godfrey Mrobongwana said the CPF was concerned with the crime in the Moffat View precinct area and told the community a project to have more patrollers visible in hot spots was soon going to be unveiled.
He also expressed the concern of the CPF about the scarcity of resources in the Moffat View Police Station and praised the police for the excellent job they do since new management came on board, despite the unavailability of resources.
Chief Supt Nico Olivier of the JMPD shared the control room of the JMPD number (011 3755911), anti-corruption number (0800 203 712) and the number for illegal dumping (082 779 1365).
He emphasised the importance of reporting illegal dumping and said the area of Moffat View precinct was filthy, and illegal dumping was a major contributor in that.
Col Lesley Lloyd, the station commander of Moffat View SAPS, appealed to the community to report illegal shebeens, drug hot spots, and unlawful activity to the station, either doing so directly or through the suggestion box at the station.
The community requested there must be a new building for the police station.
Moffat View CPF’s patroller coordinator Paulo Monteiro appealed to the community to get involved in combating crime by joining the CPF. Communities can volunteer to patrol in the streets where they live thus contributing to reducing crime in their area.
