Residents raise concerns about exposed electricity cables

Cables issue now being attended to.

RESIDENTS have been complaining about week-long unprotected City Power cables that put the residents’ and children’s lives in danger.

However, the residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief as work to fix exposed electrical cables along Klipriviersberg Road in the Hill has been initiated by one of City Power’s contractors. Residents have raised complaints about the problem that exposes people to the high risk of electrocution.

Residents claimed that due to exposed cables, they had for a period of a week experienced blackout, and had tried several times to reach out to City Power for help but received no joy. But things turned out for the better when on December 8 the residents noticed that work by the contractor had begun to fix the problem.

Sylvia Glade, a resident, said she was at her wits’ end regarding the exposed cables. She complained that this invited criminals to their neighbourhood.

“Until they are done that’s when I will be happy because they can come now but in a week leave again, leaving the place in ruins,” said Sylvia

A couple of weeks earlier, COURIER ran an article about Klipriviersberg Road residents who raised complaints about the narrow road that needed to be widened. However, the residents said the ward councillor did not pay any attention to their complaint. They added the failure to respond promptly was the reason why the residents always have problems after problems, including power outages. Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton said the residents should send their complaints, backed by reference numbers, to him and he would try to establish why the turnaround time to resolve the problems took longer.

“I would like to encourage all residents to contact me when they experience power outages, as I can assist to escalate their problems,” said Crichton. Residents can contact Crichton on 083 383 6366 or michael@ward56jhbsouth.co.za

City Power was contacted via email but COURIER has not yet received a response.
