A woman still in need of help after a fire blazed her belongings
According to Malerato, after her shack was set alight, she is yet to receive any aid for losing her belongings. She lost her children’s birth certificates, clothes, furniture, passport, and money.
A RESIDENT from Booysens informal settlement Malerato Machacha (31), a mother of two, is still heartbroken and devastated following a blazing fire which destroyed all her belongings on September 24, 2018.
According to Malerato, after her shack was set alight, she is yet to receive any aid for losing her belongings. She lost her children’s birth certificates, clothes, furniture, passport, and money.
She told COURIER all she wants is help in getting her passport and children’s birth certificates.
“After the fire raged through my shack my life has been destroyed as I’m unable to get a job or open a business. There was nothing donated to me. I need help urgently,” said Malerato.
Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni said after the fire, all affected residents received hampers and clothes.
Other residents who were also affected by fire claim they didn’t get help and the lost belongings haven’t been replaced.
Malerato maintains that disaster management came and offered some of them food parcels and dotted their names down but ever since that, nothing of significance happened.
Alberton home affairs said they need her information in order to help her and that she will have to visit the offices.
