Residents of Springbok informal settlement receive donations from Councillor
Councillor Chame reaches out to underprivileged residents.
RESIDENTS of Springbok informal settlement received food and clothes from Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame on February 9.
The idea behind her reaching out to residents of Springbok was to help alleviate the poverty residents face in the settlement.
Residents were showered with mealiemeal, oil, toiletries and clothes. Chame was all smiles as residents showed their appreciation for her donations. She told the COURIER that being able to feed and clothe people puts her at ease.
“Most of the households don’t have a stable income. Also, some single mothers put food on the table and buy clothes with the little they have, so an extra hand really goes a long way,” said Chame.
The councillor had asked for donations from other residents in her ward to lend a hand with feeding the Springbok community.
“The response from donors was overwhelming. Lots of volunteers came forward to assist with the distribution of clothing. I would like to thank all those who made this day possible,” she added.
The councillor pleaded with members of the public to donate any clothes to residents of Springbok.
