JOHANNESBURG Central SAPS are hunting for a suspect who allegedly raped a 27-year-old woman on January 1 in Rosettenville.
According to SAPS spokesperson Xoli Mbele, the suspect and victim met on social media and exchanged messages several times. They agreed to meet in Rosettenville, where the victim resides.
The suspect allegedly raped the victim in an unknown secluded place. The suspect was driving a gold double cab Hilux bakkie.
“The suspect lured the victim, saying he wanted to talk to her. It was the first time they met in person, but they knew each other through social media. He threatened the victim with a firearm before raping her. He took her back to her home afterwards,” said Mbele.
The police are asking anyone with information pertaining to the incident to come forward. Contact Det Sgt Mpho Maphoto of the Johannesburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 079 166 3130.
