One suspect shot dead, two arrested during high-speed chase

They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver accelerated at a high speed and took the Golden Highway off-ramp, skipping the traffic lights.

TWO suspects aged 35 and 29 years old were arrested by Mondeor SAPS on May 14, at about 2pm on the corner of Harper and Hamilton streets, Naturena.

SAPS were patrolling along the Golden Highway when they spotted a white Ford Ranger with four occupants. They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver accelerated at a high speed and took the Golden Highway off-ramp, skipping the traffic lights. The chase ensued and the suspects started to shoot at the SAPS, who returned fire.

Two suspects were arrested and the other was declared dead on the scene. An investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Hillbrow. The suspects are being linked to other cases within the area.

The two suspects who were arrested were detained at Mondeor Police Station and have been charged with attempted murder and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. They will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court.
