THE fight against substance abuse is easy. It is happening in the homes, schools, workplaces and in the streets.

The South African National Counsel for Alcoholism and drug Dependency (Sanca) Rosettenville wants to help, and help is available.

The Sanca Central Rand is a registered non-profit organisation that fights against the abuse of alcohol and drugs in South Africa. Over the years, Sanca Rosettenville has restored homes and brought back hope when all seemed lost.

It has stood the test of time, rendering drug and rehabilitation services and programmes that provide comprehensive information on alcohol and other drugs. The community education and development programmes offered by Sanca include talks, presentations at churches, camps, community organisations and at the workplace – completely free of charge.

Some of the programmes

• Out-patient and in-patient addiction treatment programmes, which include multiple drug-testing (charged at R150), free counselling, six weeks of rehabilitation at registered treatment centres.

• Diversion programmes aimed at young people who have already experimented with alcohol and/or other drugs or who have come into conflict with the law.

• Behaviour modification programmes are aimed at young people who are experimenting with alcohol and/or other drugs or who have come into conflict with school rules and regulations.

• Employee assistance programmes (EAP) offered to companies, schools, churches, and governments departments on request.

• Programmes of primary prevention education through stories (Poppets) programme is aimed at children from Grade R to Grade Three, both in Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and primary school level.
