Mayfield Park man (52) mauled by three dogs

He explained to COURIER he fought the dog's tooth and nail while the owner of the dogs stood and watched the play, he claimed.

KHATHUTSHELO Mukatuni (52) thought his life was coming to an end after being attacked by three dogs on May 23.

The 52-year-old from Mayfield Park, south of Johannesburg, says he was jogging around 6 pm when he suddenly saw three dogs running towards him. He explained to COURIER he fought the dog’s tooth and nail while the owner of the dogs stood and watched the play, he claimed.

“The dogs pulled me down and I kept on fighting them until I lost my balance. While I was fighting I broke some parts of my body. After all the fight and hustle I called my wife who came to my aid because I couldn’t stand or walk,” said Mukatuni.

According to Mukatuni the owner opened the gate carelessly and never attempted stopping his dogs. Mukatuni’s wife took him to South Rand Hospital where he received treatment and it took a couple of weeks for him to recover.

Mukatuni and his family tried to reach out to the owner of the dogs but he doesn’t want to oblige.

His hand was mauled by dogs.

Mondeor SAPS communications officer Capt Nokulunga Dube said a case was opened and they are investigating the matter. The COURIER tried reaching out to the owner of the dogs but failed to get hold of him.

CHARLOTTE VILAKAZI: “What happened to Mukatuni is painful. He should keep strong and focus on the positives and all will be well.”
ZANELE SHEZI: “Dogs should be kept on a leash because this man could’ve lost his life. I pray he has a speedy recovery because dogs’ wounds take time to heal.”
