THE Alberton Chess Club had their first Rapid Club Tournament at Hoërskool Dinamika.
It was a big day as the club had their exhibition matches against Roedolf Walker, representative from the RECORD. Roedolf played against Silungile Myaka, Ethan Lake and Michael Simpson. He lost two of the matches. The results were as follows:
• Section A: Open Section winners were Brighton Mthunzi, Marco De Meyer (home schooled) and Michael Simpson (Bishop Bavin). The best girl was Jessica Deans (Bracken High).
• Section B: Grade Four to Eight learners winners were Ngaa Zingoni (Kenton Primary School), Nimai Singh (Brackenhurst Primary School) and Rico De Meyer (home schooled). The best girl was Kemrin Reddy (Brackenhurst Primary School).
• Section C: Grades One to Three learners winners were Sihle Buthelezi (Brackenhurst Primary School), Owen Botha (Laerskool Orion) and Jayden Mulder (Brackenhurst Primary School). The best girl was Yinhla Nkhwashu (Kenton Primary School).
The pink pen challenge for the chess parents went to Darren Black who “won” by coming last.
