Councillor Sarah Wissler helps to get power back on
"She’s been amazing and we can only thank her from the bottom of our hearts for going the extra mile."
A RESIDENT of Yaron Avenue, Glenanda South, is overjoyed the family home once again has electricity, after living without for quite some time.
“The original problem began in July 2014 when City Power changed our electricity meter to a smart meter.
“In 2016, I received a huge account which I knew we couldn’t possibly owe and I contacted the billing department at City Power, only to be told they had backdated charges to 2014 and had made an error,” the homeowner said.
She carried on paying what she could every month, but the account was still in the red.
“My husband went, on numerous occasions, to City Power head office to try and sort out the problem and last year September, our electricity was cut off.
“My husband had to take a loan of R20 000 and we also had to sell some of our possessions to pay the account,” she added.
“Before our electricity was reconnected, which took a few weeks, our neighbour helped us and we thank him for all his assistance. We were so grateful.
“This March, our account lapsed by a few days and I phoned and spoke to a woman at City Power to explain why.
“She wasn’t interested in listening to my problems and once again we were cut off. In desperation, I phoned my ward councillor, Sarah Wissler, who has worked tirelessly to get our electricity back on.
“She’s been amazing and we can only thank her from the bottom of our hearts for going the extra mile.
“There are some great people out there and we are extremely fortunate we found a few who assisted us.”
