City of Johannesburg completes delivery of 346 vehicles to user entities
The specialised vehicles handed over will ensure the City is able to ease pressure on the constrained fleet.

THE City of Johannesburg has delivered 346 vehicles, of which 115 were part of July 31 events to the City’s departments, functional units and entities at Nasrec Expo Centre in Ormonde.
“Today we take possession of the remaining 115 of the 346 specialised vehicles which are already advancing the City’s objectives of transforming into a City that works’,” said the executive mayor, Herman Mashaba.
These vehicles were ordered based on the approved Fleet Replacement Plan for the 2018/19 financial year as per set targets setting an example of ‘service with pride’.
The specialised vehicles handed over will ensure the City is able to ease pressure on the constrained fleet. They are a part of this administration’s bigger plan to replace the ageing fleet across all departments, especially those providing essential services in the City. They will assist the City to accelerate and improve service delivery to the residents of Johannesburg immensely.
Outlined below are different types of vehicles each department received today and how these will assist with resolving challenges being experienced in the past.
Joburg City Parks and Zoo had aged equipment that was becoming unsafe for use by both our employees and the public. The department needed new and modernised machinery to do their jobs effectively e.g. cutting trees, landscaping etc. The equipment will be utilised for maintenance of trees in the City’s regions.
City Power experience delays in responding to power failures, faulty cables and cable thefts etc. Cables thefts cause a huge inconvenience to the residence and business community of Johannesburg. Their improved fleet provision will assist to ensure attendance to calls timeously and efficiently, also improving safety for our employees as a result of the new six by four (6X4) Trucks AMT Crane Rear Mount Drop-Side Body.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department received a five-ton Wheel Lift Unit. This vehicle will be able to two vehicles that are illegally parked and abandoned on the City’s roads. JMPD received a 12-ton Rollback, Crane, Winch and Twist Locks, Heavy Duty Recovery Truck 400Hp and 2×4 and an 8-ton Riot Control Vehicle. These vehicles will help JMPD deliver on its mandate efficiently and at all times.
Johannesburg Roads Agency received the 4T Crew Cab 3 Way Tipper Pot Hole Repair. With this equipment, potholes will be dealt with and filled speedily and effectively. Joburg Roads will therefore be smoother for the residence of the City and better traffic flows.
Resolving burst pipe calls has been a challenge due to infrastructure backlog that resulted in the sharing of equipment by different regions.
Johannesburg Water received a Six by Four (6×4) Tipper & Crane & Clamshell, procured to help resolve some of the challenges at this entity.
Burst pipes and leaks will be attended to effectively and speedily by this sophisticated machine. The equipment will also assist in preventative scheduled maintenance.
