Three schools get a visit from Southgate Mall

Southgate Mall commemorated its annual Mandela Day initiative to support the local communities in the southern areas.

SOUTHGATE Mall commemorated its annual Mandela Day initiative to support the local communities in the southern areas. The initiative took two days, July 18 and 19, which saw the mall visiting three schools.

• Frances Vorwerg School

On July 18 the Southgate team started the day with a visit to the Frances Vorwerg where they handed over a donation of

R10 000 to Bokang Mosia Foundation.

The foundation that was started in 2013 by Bokang Mosia, a 12-year-old honorary member of the by Southgate Kids Board. The foundation is focused on providing support to those who are less privileged, disabled and homeless.

The proceeds will be used to support Frances Vorwerg School which Bokang attends.

The team also spent time helping to pack books for the school’s new library which was unveiled on the day.

• Naturena Primary School

The Mall went on to visit Naturena Primary School which is attended by Oratile Molekoa, a Kids Board member. The Grade Five Southgate brand ambassador identified areas of concern her school needed assistance on, including the school’s feeding scheme, donation of books, school shoes for learners who can’t afford shoes and picking up of litter on the school’s premises.

The Southgate team made Oratile’s dream come true by planting a vegetable garden to support the feeding scheme, donating lunch boxes to the learners, painting a classroom the school has built. The learners were treated to lunch prepared with love by the Southgate team, fellow Kids Board members and their parents as well as school teachers.

• Lofentse Girls High School

Mowana head office and Southgate Shopping Centre partnered with the SAME Foundation to celebrate Mandela Day at the Lofentse Girls High on July 19. They all repainted classrooms as part of the school’s ongoing upliftment project.
