Illegal dumping worries councillor

Rubbish on the streets bothers councilor.

COUNCILLOR Faeeza Chame is up in arms because of illegal dumping in her ward.

Chame said she decided to take a drive around her ward when she noticed consistent illegal dumping on street corners.

She is worried about this and says if this continues people’s health will be at risk.

She told the COURIER if perpetrators don’t stop dumping it will result in a rat infestation, which will harm residents.

“I would like to encourage residents to please join the fight against litter and illegal dumping. Speak to your neighbours, family and friends about this matter because this is a serious problem.

“Let’s own our area and try by all means to keep it safe and clean for the sake of the little ones in the community,’ said Chame.

The areas troubling Chame are Elandspark, La Rochelle, Moffat View, South Hills and Regents Park.

“La Rochelle has an unbearable smell. The residents need to come together and see to it illegal dumping stops,” Chame siad.

The councillor stated they have started a programme where they conduct a clean-up in different areas in her ward on every third Saturday of the month.

If anyone wants to be a part of the clean-up they can contact Chame on 081 329 7424 or email her on faychame@hotmail.com

She advises residents to report illegal dumping to JMPD via WhatsApp on 061 486 2058.
