VIDEO: Muggers attack Southdale woman in wheelchair

She was mugged by four men in the early evening as she was travelling in her wheelchair.

WHEELCHAIR-BOUND Charmaine Lewis* (53) from Southdale is on medication because of a traumatic incident that happened to her on November 8.

She was mugged by four men in the early evening as she was travelling in her wheelchair.

They took her gold bangle, earrings and neck chains.

“Fortunately I left my phone at home,” she said.

“I live with my aunt as she was staying alone, so for exercise I often go out to train my arms on a wheelchair.

“On that day four men approached me and they wanted to push me on my wheelchair.

“I told them thanks and they were very aggressive.

“One grabbed my left arm and took my gold bangle and the others took my earring and chains.

“As I was shoved and pushed I fell down and that’s when I went blank. My body was numb,” said Naidoo.

She said passers-by helped and lifted her up into the wheelchair and brought her home.

Lewis said she didn’t report the matter to the police as she was traumatised. However, she hopes for more police visibility in the area.

“I’m scared to go out now, this place is dangerous. I cannot live like this in my own country.

“How can a woman in a wheelchair defend herself against four men? Please, we need help,” she said.
