#GIVINGTUESDAY is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organisations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity.
This year’s #GivingTuesdaySA took place on December 3 and kicked off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
ArkStar Kidz Club celebrated giving by helping young children achieve their equestrian dreams.
The mission of ArkStar Kidz Club is to create opportunities for the youth to learn, grow and participate in equestrian sport in South Africa.
They do this through increasing both sport participation rates and healthy development of youth, as well as career options.
“Joining #GivingTuesdaySA allows individuals and organisations from all over the world to help the organisation achieve their goal of ensuring the youth of South Africa are afforded the opportunity to follow their equestrian dreams of becoming the next South African horse-riding champions.
“Watching horses teach children on a daily basis and seeing how they heal broken spirits is something I will never stop being amazed by. The joy horses bring into our lives is endless,” said Taneil Arkner, founder of ArkStar Kidz Club.
“We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y.
Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, a community and cultural centre in New York City, #GivingTuesday has inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in.
Over $300-million (about R400-billion) was raised online to benefit a broad range of organisations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
“We were energised and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people contributed and shared are phenomenal,” Henry added.
