A WALKERVILLE resident was hit twice in one week by cattle thieves when they stole 40 cows.
Eltie Weitzman, owner of the lost livestock told the COURIER/CHRONICLE cows started disappearing during the night from the kraal on November 11.
The 69-year-old said the shepherds searched for the missing cows in areas like Lenasia, Grasmere, Weiler’s Farm, Orange Farm, Fine Town and Ennerdale, but their search yielded no results.
“At that time we were looking for 10 cows. I contacted the De Deur SAPS and they came, but couldn’t find anything.
“We tried to tighten up the security to avoid such things from happening again, but it wasn’t the case,” said Weitzman.
On November 16, more of Weitzman’s cows went missing.
“I was shattered. I couldn’t think. We again tried searching for them, but failed to find them.
“We are always careful when it comes to security. How the thieves managed to get inside without being seen is a mystery,’ said Weitzman.
From the 40 stolen cows, Weitzman said 10 are heavily pregnant and she depended on them for business to continue growing.
What worries Weitzman is the health of the cows because they’re jersey cows and they need to be treated accordingly.
“They need to be given medication and food to stay alive,” said Weitzman.

She opened a case with De Deur SAPS.
The COURIER/CHRONICLE contacted De Deur SAPS and we were informed that the case has been taken by anti-stock theft unit.
The COURIER/CHRONICLE tried reaching out to the anti-stock theft unit several times telephonically, but with no success.
