Athletics club donates sporting gear to Kibler Park Secondary School

As a running club, JHAC tries to give back to the community in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club (JHAC) donated sporting gear to Kibler Park Secondary School on January 22.

The sporting gear includes touch rugby and soccer kit and a unisex kit (touch rugby).

JHAC secretary, Cathy Munn, said this is the oldest running club in South Africa (116 years old) and they are based at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park.

“In 2019 the committee decided to find out who we can help on a ground level and it was decided that Kibler Park Secondary School met the criteria.

“We took time to find out what they would benefit from most. They elected to have sporting gear. The kit will not be given to individual learners, but remain the property of the school,” she said.

Coach at the school, Gershwin Molefe, welcomed the gesture from JHAC.

“On behalf of Kibler Park Secondary School, the coaching and sport committee we would just like to say thank you to JHAC for the great contribution of sport kit to the school and we hope we’ll be winning a lot of gold medals in this new kit,” he said.

JHAC holds a race each year, which is the Jackie Gibson race. It will take place on March 29, and it is the 75th time that this race will be run. A special medal will be given to the marathon runners who complete the marathon in the allotted time.
