Accident in Eastcliff

The accident took place at about noon.

Three cars were involved in an accident on the corner of Boundary Lane/Orpen Road and Satara Road, Eastcliff, on February 10.

The accident took place at about noon.

According to Maria Dreyfoz, who works at Eastcliff Medical Centre, the driver of one vehicle injured his knee, a passenger in another vehicle was admitted to hospital for treatment and the woman of the third vehicle sustained whiplash.

Last year traffic lights were erected at the intersection of Orpen and Letaba roads, by the entrance to the Tiago Shopping Centre, after complaints by business owners on Boundary Lane and Orpen Road, following many accidents along this road, one resulting in a death.

The intersection of Boundary Lane/Orpen Road and Satara Road, still remains difficult for motorists to exit out of, especially if they are turning right to go down towards The Glen Shopping Centre.

“This is a 60 kmp/h zone and many motorists still speed in excess of 100 kmp/h,” said a man who is a patient at Eastcliff Medical Centre.

Last year councillor Michael Crichton of Ward 56 said: “I am extremely pleased they are now implementing traffic lights at this intersection and I’m confident this will assist with limiting the number of accidents that will take place on this road.”
