Officer’s hard work gives results
Booysens SAPS management thanks Sgt Fanie van Staden for his hard work which resulted in a conviction. This comes after a suspect was sentenced to three years’ direct imprisonment on January 29, for cable theft-related matters.
Suspects get imprisoned
A man has been sentenced to eight years’ direct imprisonment for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, as well as reckless and negligent driving on January 30.
According to Booysens SAPS communications officer, Capt Lorraine van Emmerik, on May 5, 2018, the suspect skipped a traffic light and when the police tried stopping him he didn’t stop.
They chased the suspect until he stopped and when he was searched a firearm was recovered.
Liquor owners issued with fines
Booysens SAPS officials conducted a Section 10 investigation under Gauteng Liquor Act 2/2003 against two problematic liquor premises in the Booysens area.
This operation resulted in liquor owners getting fines, but this did not have the necessary effect and the premises continued to disobey the Gauteng Liquor Act.
According to van Emmerik, a file was opened and the necessary documentation was collected with proof of all action taken against the premises
“The members worked for about a year on each premise, giving advice where necessary, but are still being ignored and the owner’s of the premises continued to not listen to the rules set out for them when they applied for their liquor licences,’ said van Emmerik.
The files were handed over to the Liquor Board and a trial was held.
