Mondeor SAPS informs public vehicle theft is on the rise

The SAPS would like to remind the public to avoid parking their vehicles on the streets unattended.

Mondeor SAPS would like to inform the community of the increase of theft of motor vehicles over the month of February.

The whole of Mondeor policing area was affected and mostly the suburbs of Mondeor, Mulbarton, Glenanda and Ridgeway.

Most vehicles are stolen when they are parked outside homes or shopping centres, with Toyota sedans and hatchbacks and VW Polos mainly targeted.

These vehicles are stolen mostly on Fridays and Saturdays.

The SAPS would like to remind the public to avoid parking their vehicles on the streets unattended. Rather park inside the property or in a properly secured parking area.

Safety tips

• Do not park your vehicle where there’s no security.

• Ensure all doors and windows are locked properly before leaving the vehicle.

• Remove valuables and lock them inside the car’s boot.

• During the evening, park in well-lit areas.

• When visiting schools and shopping centres, ensure the vehicle is parked in a parking area.
