Overflow of water irks resident

The overflow breeds rats, mosquitoes and the smell stemming from the water is unbearable.

A 61-year-old resident is at her wits’ end with an overflow of water which is next to her unit.

The irate resident, Mary-Ann van Tonder from Glenesk, said the pool of water has been a problem since 2018.

The cause of this debacle is a burst pipe which is yet to be repaired.

The overflow breeds rats, mosquitoes and the smell stemming from the water is unbearable.

She claims she even took her grandchildren to their mother because they were struggling to cope with the filthy conditions of the place.

“The status of this place is not normal and I have tried doing what I can to prevent this water pool, but all my efforts yielded barren results,” said van Tonder.

She said even her neighbours have given up with regards to solving the water pool.

“We as the community are tired of this. All we want is to see this overflow out of our sight,” said van Tonder.

Isaac Dhludhlu, Joburg Water’s marketing and communications manager, said they urge all residents of the City to continue to log calls using the relevent channels in order to get assisted with water problems.
