Fun Family-Night Activities that Bring You Closer to Your Loved Ones

Now more than ever, many people are opting to stay home rather than venture outside. And even if you occasionally step outside the house, there's a good chance the kids are stuck at home. In a situation like this, it's easy for boredom to creep in.

But times like these are also an excellent chance to bond with your family. The best way to keep everyone entertained is to take part in a few family activities at home. While there’s nothing wrong with bingeing on YouTube videos and TV series, sitting in front of a screen isn’t the best way to bond. Luckily, there are plenty of activities that will allow you to interact with your family instead of a screen:

Shoot a Movie

This is a great way to encourage your children to plan and work together. Most smartphones can record crisp videos, and there are plenty of apps that can edit the videos you shot. With a bit of planning and two or three smartphones, your kids can direct and shoot a cool movie with effects and professional transitions.

Cook Dinner

When was the last time you let your children help you in the kitchen? If you have a collection of easy home recipes that are simple enough for your children to prepare, let them take the wheel. Take the simplest recipes you can find and let your children prepare them (with your supervision, of course).

Host a Show-and-Tell Night

Everyone in the family owns something that has a special place in their heart. It could be a painting, a cool T-shirt, a book or a pair of shoes. Let each family member choose an item that’s important to them and tell the rest of the family why it’s so important to them. Encourage everyone to make the presentation a multi-sensory experience by using music, pictures and video.

Host a Costume Night

You don’t have to wait for Halloween to play dress up. And you certainly don’t need a costume shop to don something funny. Let the kids ransack your wardrobe and have them dress up as you for a night. Also encourage them to try to speak and act like you to make things even funnier. While you probably won’t fit into your kids’ clothes, try to wear casual clothes that are similar to your children’s fashion sense.

Read a Book

Instead of reading a story to your children, pick an age-appropriate book and take turns reading a page or passage. Encourage everyone to get into character by changing their voices and making facial expressions to match the words they’re reading.

There’s no reason for the entire family to glue themselves to their cellphones when there are plenty of activities to try out. Give your cellphones, tablets, laptops and TV a break by engaging in activities that bring you closer to the people who matter most.
