Drain covers stolen at Moffat View Retirement Village

Moffat View Retirement Village’s drain covers have been stolen by thieves who enter the village as they wish.
Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame said the village has become a playground for young people to live with their parents, which is unconstitutional.
“A retirement village is meant for the elderly to make their last years relaxing and peaceful. But this is not happening in all the government old age homes. There is no law and order. Everyone just does as they please.
“The thieves have free excess through the gates. Security is at times non-existent to watch at the gate as to who goes in and out.
“The latest trend is to steal the drain covers. This poses a high risk. The elderly can easily fall and break their fragile bones.
“I want to appeal to the thieves to refrain from disturbing and terrorising the elderly. Some of the seniors have to wake up at 2am during the night to patrol the village.
“Government officials were called for a meeting with the seniors. The seniors are tired of the same promises.
If you know who the thieves are please inform Moffat View SAPS on 011 405 1504 or you can call me on 081 329 7424,” said Chame.
