Fordsburg Mayfair substation under repair

This is after a tree got blown about five metres away from the servitude to the power lines.

Community members in areas around the Fordsburg Mayfair substation faced a gloomy start to the week after a pylon tower and 88kv lines got damaged by the heavy storms on Monday.

This is after a tree got blown about five metres away from the servitude to the power lines.

According to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, City Power teams worked throughout the night to attend to the outage.

“Although the area of the accident in the Crown mine dumps is difficult and dangerous to work in due to the muddy sinking surface, our teams managed to find ways to go around it in order to conduct repairs,” he added.

A feeder board at Mayfair substation remains off and affects power supply to the following areas:
• Mayfair
• Crosby
• Micor Industrial
• Paarlshoop
• Homestead Park
• Crown
• Amalgam
• Langlaagte
• Their extensions and surroundings.

“Despite the weather conditions, repairs are underway and are expected to be done by early Tuesday evening after which power will be restored,” said Mangena.

“We apologise to the affected customers for the inconvenience caused.”
