Concerns over the appalling state of Ward 56

Ward 56 community to work together to restore pride in their area.

#ReclaimOurCommunity Programme will be re-implemented in Ward 56 on September 26 at Southern Suburbs from 09:00.

The activity entails repairs of the damaged structures, painting and cleaning and ultimately ensuring that there are community volunteers who will work with the security of the facility in beefing up security measures for the facility.

“We are disturbed by the continuous unabated rate of decay of Ward 56 communities, in particular, Rosettenville, The Hill, Townsview and La Rochelle,” said ANC Ward 56 councillor candidate Simphiwe Hlafa.

“These communities are gradually becoming crime dens as well. Sports and recreation facilities are the explicit targets for criminals.

“The only Southern Suburbs decent public facility in Ward 56 is currently being wrecked in the presence of security personnel.”

Hlafa said Green House at The Hill, restrooms at JC Lucas Park in Rosettenville, the burnt facility at Augusta Street and 3rd Avenue are all vandalised and are official hideouts for criminals.

“We call on all patriotic citizens of our ward beyond party lines, irrespective of nationality and colour, all caring stakeholders from NPO sector, retail to law enforcement agencies to cooperatively work as a collective to salvage what is left of our communities. We must resist surrendering our community to unscrupulous elements.”
