A collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle at Comaro and Soetdoring intersection in Bassonia left 6 people with moderate to serious injuries this morning, September 22.

Russel Meiring from ER24 said their paramedics arrived on the scene at 10:00 to find a wrecked truck lying on its side on the pavement.

“A man was found lying trapped inside while four others were seated nearby. A pregnant woman was found seated inside her light motor vehicle.”   

“On assessment, medics found that the entrapped man and the pregnant woman and another man were in a critical condition while the three others had sustained moderate injuries,” said Meiring.

Rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the man from the truck. The patients were treated and the three critically injured were provided with advanced life support.

Once treated, one critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital while the remaining patients were transported by ambulance. 

“Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” added Meiring.
