Newly appointed commander celebrates 32 years of service

Newly appointed station commander at Moffat View SAPS Col Andrew Monegi recently celebrated a milestone achievement of 32 years of service.

Moffat View SAPS newly appointed station commander Col Andrew Monegi cherished his many years of experience as an officer on September 20.

Monegi has relished 32 years of service in the force and is prepared to bring his expertise to the station after being appointed on September 13.

The devoted officer, who started his profession in the late 80s, assured the COURIER he is in the business of fighting crime and is prepared to working around the clock to curb crime.

He started working at Eldorado Park SAPS and branched out to other police stations, occupying high ranks in and around the Johannesburg district. He previously worked at Jeppe Police Station as a station commander.

“In all my years I’ve been in leadership positions. I have always been a believer that one cannot police without the community’s involvement.

“My motto is that the community must always be first priority. I always tell my officers that there’s only one thing they are here to do, to give service to the community,” said Monegi.

His focus is solely fighting crime and providing good service delivery.

Throughout Monegi’s service, he focused on visible policing. He said he likes working with community structures such as the CPF and sector crime forums.

“To the 32 suburbs that fall under our policing precinct, I aim to have every suburb boasts its crime forum. The challenge is to deal with hijackings, house robberies and assaults,” said Monegi.

“It’s few individuals in every area that commits a crime, and if the community reports these perpetrators, we could make our community a safer place. Most of these crimes emanate from drug use, which is rife in this area,” he said.

Moffat View SAPS communications officer Sgt Solly Matjila encouraged the community to report any criminal elements on 071 675 6330.
